Obama Widens Lead Over McCain in New Poll - WSJ.com

Independent voters are starting to swing behind Barack Obama and Joe Biden, who continue to benefit from economic turmoil and the public response to their debate performances, according to a new Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll.

The bleak news is that of the 44,838 species considered, 16,928 are threatened with extinction, including almost a quarter of the world's mammals. It is not all bad news though. Some endangered species, such as African Elephants and Wild Horses, are beginning to recover.

The world’s poor and uprooted people are increasingly at risk as the world struggles with a combination of adverse economic, social and political trends that threaten to trigger even greater displacement in the future, the top United Nations refugee official warned today.
